My Brixham Holiday

Smugglers Cottage

Sleeps 4
2 Bedrooms
1 Bathrooms

Smugglers is a quintessential Brixham fisherman’s cottage set above the main harbour across two floors, with a natural feel. A working wood burner features prominently in the open plan lounge diner for cosy warmth even in the winter months, with plush armchair seating adjacent to a frontal bay window providing a view of the harbour that could also be enjoyed from a small patio area outside the front door. Classical pine furnituring features throughout, including the dining area with its high-back bench and chairs a few steps away from the understated kitchen. With sandstone accent flooring, the kitchen provides a microwave, washing machine and oven as well as plateware.

On the second floor are the property’s two double bedrooms, picture perfect for two couples on a romantic getaway. The master is more spacious with a bay window to enjoy the views from the comfort of your bed, with plentiful storage space and chairs, while its second bedroom is great for those who prefer a more snug environment.

As a whole, Smugglers is bright with a focus upon natural light from the windows and colour palette. The name nods to Brixham’s extensive mythos, and a five-minute walk down to the harbour greets you with local attractions like the Golden Hind. Feel connected to the local folklore close at hand like the Coffin House or one of the town’s more famous smugglers, ‘Resurrection Bob’ Elliott. In this property, closer than most to the homes in which these people may have lived, raise a glass of wine to this historical Devonshire town.

Parking is available on the streets surrounding the property or you may choose to purchase a parking permit from the council that provides access to many of its car parks.

Location Information

Smugglers Cottage is situated on North View Road. Please note that the road is very narrow and may be difficult for larger cars to access.

On-foot access to the town centre is by steps or hill. An eclectic range of eateries and shops emerge at the foot of the steps onto Fore Street, the town’s central thoroughfare; familiar high street names like Costa co-exist with Brixham businesses such as Dilly Dally and the West Country Deli. Close by is Middle Street, a hotbed of independent business.

A short walk takes you to the ferries or the main Brixham bus stop that can take you to destinations in Torbay and beyond. Along the harbour you can head to the breakwater and its half-mile walk to the lighthouse, or the nearby shingle beach. The beach has a Blue Flag Award — a global standard that commends cleanliness, safety, and environmental considerations.
